Original era manufacture. I really like these, have a few in our own collection as well. Original issue medal of silver, named on the edge to3749 Pte. J.Byrne E.Lanc.Rgt, who is confirmed on the medal rolls as having been awarded the clasp for the Relief of Chitral1896.Many old medals were converted into name place holders for use inregimental or battalion mess occasions.Medals found in pawn shops, or perhaps donated by families were converted in this way. You can find many varieties of medals used, even those for Waterloo. The medal shows age and wear, however the naming details are quite clear providing ampleinformation for further research. The medal is a bit loose on its suspension bar, but in no danger of coming apart.
