Original era manufacture. A very sound example of this cutlass, a pattern adopted by our own Navy in 1917. Black hard rubber or plastic grips secured by three brass rivets. Heat impressed into the top of one grip are Japanese characters indicating use by that nation after the capture of the Dutch East Indies during WWII. Sound black leather sheath with brass fittings. The blade is quite clean, no nicks in the cutting edge, just some very shallow pitting in spots from cleaned corrosion.
