Item #68960 : Original period manufacture. Over the years these have been collector identified as being the German tropical canteen for use by the Afrika Korps. Evidently, their use was much more widespread, and they appear to have been a general issue canteen. Clear markings on the body, HRE 42, and on the feldgrau painted snaphook, RITTER. Tan canvas harness with a leather neck strap, black bakelite screw cap. Needs a cup.
