Original era manufacture. I have always like the looks of these old helmets, classic, and rather menacing looking. As with most of the other items on today's update, it was purchased from the same Arizona collection.Heavy iron construction, with a fluted crown and a segmented tail piece. There is a band of brass decorative bosses around the circumference of the helmet shell, with a thick iron visor riveted to the front of the helmet. Overall finish is an old tar-like black paint, likely redone at some point in the past but certainly nothing recent. Our seller advised that the nose piece was a replacement, but the turn-key looks period, and the bottoms of the two ear protectors have been repaired. Fair enough, this helmet is over 400 years old and properly done repairs are acceptable I feel. The interior of the helmet is without a liner, the neckguard has three strips of leather backing for the iron rivets holding the segments in place, and the left side ear protector leather hinge is intact. The right side is broken, with evidence of a poorly thought-out modern repair is visible. The helmet looks magnificent for display, and just needs a little TLC to set it right.
