Original era manufacture. Heavy, darkened steel breastplate decorated with brass headed steel rivets. The metal has a dark patina finish with evidence of old cleaned rust, which has had a protective clear lacquer coating applied to it many years ago.The metal still has a ring to it, so it is not a Irish lace sort of fragile rusted thing, and the two jagged rents in the metal were certainly not caused by rust. Perhaps inflicted by grapeshot, or musketry at close range, in any case they most certainly caused the demise of its wearer. There are no visible markings that I have been able to pick out, but it certainly makes a very emotive display statement
