Original period manufacture. Polished steel, single edgedblade measuring 22 inches in length. The blade is clean with some scattered areas of staining and darkening, but no pitting and the edge has not been sharpened. The only marking I could find was a small crown proof on the reverse ricasso. Severalbooks make references to this pattern, one identifies it as a French Mle 1831 another a Swiss pattern. I vote Swiss but made by the Germans. No scabbard.
