Original era manufacture. A well made sword with a 31 inch, double edged, polished steel blade, which is maker marked Klingenthal and sold by the famous French firm of Coulax Freres (brothers). I believe this example to be a pattern of 1837 Naval Officers sword. The blade is very clean, a bit sharp, and runs straight and true along its length. Gilded brass clamshell guard decorated with a crowned anchor and four crossed flags, the opposite side folds down for wear. Ornate cast decoration in the single branch guard and pommel. Carved horn grip which exhibits some damage on the side and reverse.A very clean looking sword but missing its scabbard.
