Original period manufacture. A massive straight bladed sword, once wielded by the Cuirassier regiments of Napoleon Bonaparte. Heavy, polished steel blade measuring 38 inches in length, running straight and true, with double fullers on each side. As with many of the surviving examples AN XIII swords of this era, the point has been modified to a spear tip, rather than the original hatchet style. Overall the blade is clean with scattered areas of staining, but no corrosion pitting or damage. On the spine of the blade can be seen Klingenthal Mars 1811. Heavy brass four branch guard, with a matching pommel cap, all showing a pleasing brass patina finish. Leather wrapped grip bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. There is a 2mm gap between the bottom of the blade, and top of the guard. This would have been originally covered by a thick leather bumper which is missing.Heavy steel scabbard with two suspension rings. The surface displays a dark steel patina finish but without any denting. The blade can be drawn and inserted easily, but will stick in the scabbard throat when inserted, If the bumper was in place it would prevent the blade from doing this. From our own collection.
