Original era manufacture. Curved, polished steel blade measuring 31 inches in length. The blade runs straight and true, with an even steel patina finish to the metal, with a few small nicks along the cutting edge.At the ricasso is engrave the profile of a Hussar with an upraised sword, and above, what looks to be 8wat. The image shows an attempt at scratching it away, a friend suggested it may have been done by a captor in order to deface the French emblem.Single branch brass guard with a lionhead pommel, and long French style langets on each side of the guard. Very tapered, leather wrapped grip with no wire binding, and areas of exposed wood to be seen. The scabbard is interesting in its own right as it has two brass suspension bands with a striped design on each side, and a brass decorated opening to the throat. The body has a nice steel patina to the metal with a dent on one side about midway down its length. The blade fits the scabbard properly, only needing a bit of a push as it is fully inserted, likely some grime or other debris in the bottom.
