French, 2nd Empire, Imperial Guard Officers Sword

Original era manufacture. Triangular, rapier style blade which measures 31.5 inches in length. Marked on the ricasso as a M1860.Folding brass guard on one side, which is marked Garde Imperiale, the lock mechanism no longer works, fixed guard on the opposite side. Decorative D-shaped guard marked with the letter N for Napoleon, eagle decorated pommel. The grip is of carved horn and is free from cracks or chips. Overall the sword shows age and use, but remains a scarce example from the time of Napoleon III.
