Original era manufacture. A second empire example, in the basic class of Chevalier, or Knight, awarded during the reign of Napoleon III. This would have been awarded for service in the Crimea, China, Italy, Mexico and the early months of the Franco-Prussian War. Silver medal with gold discs front and rear, with the obverse displaying the profile of Napoleon I, and the reverse, the Imperial eagle. The Legion of Honor were produced with extensive beautiful enamel work, some of it quite delicate, and being so, suffer over time from nicks and chipping. Overall the condition is quite nicefor its age, and frankly is better than some in my own collection. Original red silk ribbon with light staining to the fabric.
