Original era manufacture. Royal blue wool single breasted coat with a narrow red wool collar, red wool piped front, cuffs, with three button red wool panels on each sleeve end.The tail of the coat is also piped in red wool and is missing it's buttons. On each shoulder is a thin silver brocade strip backed in the same wool as the coat, and on the left upper chest a thin strip of material to act as a support for medals and decorations. Quilted bone color polished cotton lining to the body and sleeves, with a red wool lining to the skirts. There is a white canvas inner belt with a double prong brass securing buckle. Each of the closure buttons have a small brass button on the interior to act as support, on the opposite side a red leather panel is sewn to reinforce the lower four button holes. Several costume house property stamps can be seen on the interior, including several which state "The Wonder" in red ink. The lining is torn at the base of the collar, and the black velvet collar lining has pulled away. On the front of the coat, and on each cuff, are silver buttons displaying a bursting bomb with the letter I (or 1), one button is missing from the front. Coat size is about a 38. The overall condition is quite good, the seams for the most part are all tight, with minimal moth issues seen. My apologies in advance for not being able to give a precise identification of the unit this coat represents, an old hand written inscription on the interior states "French Artillery", maybe, but I'm not so sure. Regardless, this is a nice old coat.
