French, Circa 1848, 2nd Republic, Garde Mobile Officers Shako

Original era manufacture. A nicely restored, original shako, as worn by an officer in the French Garde Nationale 1848-1854. Original blue wool covering on the shako body, original leather liner and visor, and molded leather top. The top shows repairs on the edges, with most of that being covered by the gold brocade trim. The molded scale chinstraps are one piece, with a leather backing and replaced adjusting straps on the edge. Both the chinscales and shako plate have been painted. In it's present restored condition the shako is quite sound, making an attractive display piece.
