Original era manufacture. Polished steel blade measuring 31.5 inches in length, with a bright clean finish, running straight and true. No nicks in the cutting edge, with a few spots of light corrosion spotting. Engraved on the top of the spine is the following; Chatellerault 1849. The leather bumper is at the base of the blade.Sound D shaped brass guard and pommel cap, exhibiting a pleasing patina finish. Intact leather wrapped grip with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Dent free steel scabbard with a double ring suspension, showing a dark steel patina finish. This pattern weapon was the inspiration of the US Model 1840 Light Artillery Sword, being a near identical copy.
