Original era manufacture. Polished steel blade measuring 31.5 inches in length, with a bright clean finish, running straight and true. No nicks in the cutting edge, with just a small touch of corrosion spotting.Engraved on the top of the spine is the following; Chatellerault 1855. The leather bumper is at the base of the blade.Sound D shaped brass guard and pommel cap, exhibiting a pleasing patina finish. Intact leather wrapped grip with only two bands of grip wire remaining. Dent free steel scabbard with a single ring suspension, the surface has a pleasing steel patina finish, with one spot of surface corrosion.This pattern weapon was the inspiration of the US Model 1840 Light Artillery Sword, being a near identical copy.
