Original era manufacture. Government issue medal and document to a soldier who served in the 76th Regiment of the Line during the Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871. This regiment composed part of the 2nd Army Corps commanded by General Frossard. The 76th performed well during the Battle of Spicheren, 5August 1870. It, and the remainder of the Army of the Rhine, were later surrounded in the Fortress of Metz andsurrendered to the German forces inOctober of the same year. The document is dated 1912, shows tohave been folded at one time and has the Campaign medal pinned to the paper in the French fashion. It resides in this period wood frame which needs to have it's glass replaced.
