Original era manufacture. A very clean example of this classic brass handled bayonet for the 1866 Chassepot rifle. Non-matching numbers guard to scabbard, maker marked St. Etienne August 1870 on the blade spine. The scabbard has been modified after its capture by the addition of a German style scabbard lug instead of the steel loop. German unit markings on the scabbard throat.
