Original period manufacture. A solid, early production example with blade markings by the Imperial Arsenal at St.Etienne and dated 1867, making it right in the time period for the Franco Prussian War 18701871.  The blade is bright with no corrosion issues. During the war this bayonet was captured and modified by the Germans for use by their troops postwar. German style frog stud on the scabbard with Imperial proofs and Landwehr unit markings on the guard.
