French M1866 Chassepot Bayonet, Navy Marked 1868

Original period manufacture. Standard issue Chassepot bayonet but with an anchor proof on the obverse of the guard. The blade shows a mix of steel polish and patina with some light cleaned pitting on the spine. Dark polished brass pommel and working lock button. The dent-free scabbard has a light dusting of surface corrosion but overall a mix of blue finish and steel patina. Franco-Prussian War era bayonet,  mismatched serial numbers, guard to scabbard.
