Original era manufacture. Classic sword bayonet with a yataghan shaped blade, introduced for use with the breechloading Chassepot rifle in 1866. This example is German made, bearing the letters P.D.L. on the reverse ricasso; no dates or other markings on the blade spine. Steel patina finish to the blade and guard, with an old attempt at sharpening on the edge. Few scattered nicks in the cutting edge along its length. Dent-free steel scabbard with a mix of patina and old black paint finish.
