Original period manufacture. Now here's one we all wish could talk. In our recent bayonet/knife/sword collection purchase was this rather careworn Mle 1816 French Artillery short sword. Cast brass grip with a fishscale design and a Roman gladius inspired blade. On one side of the guard is stamped an anchor and on the other a serial number. Our seller stated that his brother found this sword off of the coast of Florida while skindiving in the 1970's. Certainly believable as you must pass right by Florida on your way to Haiti or other French colonies back in the day. Remarkably sound for its age and circumstances, old black paint finish now covers the steel blade.
