Original era manufacture. A sound black leather frog with a painted finish. Brass securing strap buckle, numbered "40" on the reverse in white paint. I tried a Gras scabbard in this frog, fits pretty well, a little tight at the bottom, a Lebel bayonet wiggles around quite a bit.
