Original era manufacture. Chasseur pattern Kepi of black wool with ornate silver wire embroidery around the cap band, a silver brocade quatrefoil on the top of the kepi, and two thin silver brocade rank bars at the four corners of the hat.The service branch which this oldkepi represents it unknown to me at this time, however the elaborate embroidery on the band indicates an individual of at least an equivalent to a Colonel, and quite possibly General rank. The wool body exhibits considerable moth damage, however being of dark material it blends fairly well. Black silk lined interior with aprinted Paris makersname in gold lettering, the sweatband is missing. The hat is sound, the visor is securing fastened to the body of the hat. It's certainly a shameabout the mothing, but it is priced accordingly, second empire officers hats are hard to come by and fairly expensive too.
