Original era photograph, the subject is shown standing, full view with his hat placed on a photographers prop. On the front of the hat is an Infantry bugle with the number 47 within its circle. The backmark shows a Newport Pa photographer. The image is very clear with a portion of the image surface missing on the soldiers upper right leg. The 47th Pennsylvania Infantry was a three year regiment formed in Harrisburg (Newport is in the general area)and served in many different theaters of the war. Their greatest losses were suffered in the battles of Pocotaligo SC and Cedar Creek Virgina, with a total of 185 killed, wounded and prisoners in those two battles alone, with a total of 290 casualties for the war. Thanks for looking and enjoy the bidding.
