A very clear, full-length image of a young German soldier, serving inthe Fusilier battalion of his regiment, as indicated by his black waistbelt and knapsack straps.He stands with pipe in hand, and on his left arm wears a light colored armband, worn by German troops during the Danish War of 1864 to identify them toPrussia's Ally, Imperial Austria.In his right hand he holds his needle gun, and his 1860 pattern Pickelhaube is suspended from its chinstrap, looped over the hilt of his Faschinenmesser.
