Original era manufacture. An early pattern cup, or beaker, designed to fit over the bottom of the issue canteen. The two rectangular loops served as guides for the leather shoulder strap. See page 143, Vol.I, The German Infantry from 1871-1914, by Herr & Nguyen for a similar example. Scattered minor surface denting and light pitting from old surface corrosion. Scarce cup
