Original period manufacture. A field service auality sword with etched panesl on each side of the polished steel blade. The blade measures 33 inches in length with the makers name of Ewald Cleff on the ricasso. On the reverse side of the blade is a panel with the names of two individuals and the date of 1,1,1893. The blade is quite clean with a few small nicks in the edge towards the tip. Heavy quality brass guard and lionheaded pommel of a pattern made without the glass eyes. Fishskin wrapped grip (worn through in spots) bound with heavy triple wire binding. Dent free steel scabbard with brass suspension bands and rings. At somepoint in the swords life its scabbard was coated with a heavy black lacquer with a white base coat. It seems to want to chip away with a fingernail and would improve the look of the scabbard immensely when removed. Solid old sword with great research potential.
