Original era manufacture. An early pattern 1848 Bavarian enlisted Raupenhelm, made without the two crown ventilators on each side of the comb. Formed leather body, with a removable lambswool comb and a crown and Ludwig cypher on the front. Unbound leather visor, brass lion head boss on each side which hold the brass linked scale adjustable chinstrap in place, one scale is loose. Above the left side lion boss is a blue and white cockade, with a sunburst like background. No moth issues with the wool comb, most of the leather liner is missing. A solid early example which would have likely seen service in both the 1866 and 1870-71 campaigns.
