Original era manufacture. An early pattern 1868 Bavarian enlisted Raupenhelm, made without the two crown ventilators on each side of the comb. Formed leather body, with a removable lambswool comb and a crown and Ludwig cypher on the front. Brass bound leather visor, brass lion head boss on each side which hold the black leather adjustable chinstrap in place. Above the left side lion boss is a large cockade displaying the Ludwig cypher, with a sunburst background. No moth issues with the wool comb, the liner is complete and pliable. At one point there was a brass edge to the rear visor, now missing.
