Original era manufacture. Black leather bodied helmet with securely sewn front and rear visors. Complete chinstrap, and all metal furniture, single Bavarian cockade on the left side. Removable black wool comb, which is missing it's rear attaching tab, allowing the rear side, or tail of the comb to pivot. Most of the original lining remains however the leather is fragile. Nice luster to the leather surface of the helmet. Adopted in 1868, and worn by the Bavarian army until 1886 when the Prussian inspired pickelhaube replaced the traditional Raupenhelm.
