Original era manufacture. This well made Imperial eagle once formed part of a silk tapestry souvenir purchased in Japan around the turn of the 19th century, to commemorate a sailors cruise to the far east. Being made of silk, a good many of these old souvenirs have deteriorated over the years, yet a quick-thinking individual saved this centerpiece eagle from destruction.The eagle measures 6.5x9.5 inches, is made of quilted and padded silk with an intricate embroidered design. It would make a nice centerpiece in an Imperial German display.
