Original era manufacture. Small brass and steel tool used to nick the necks of the sick in order to "let blood" in an effort to effect a cure. This example appears to be spring loaded, in that you would "cock" the piece, place the blade next to the persons neck and press the small brass bar. It then released the blade and pierced the persons skin to begin the bleeding process. The trigger no longer can be set, but still moves freely in its casing. Complete with its chamois lined leather case. Neat little tool.
