Original era photography.A very clear framed photograph of a Saxon Artillery unit visiting the battlefield of Gravelotte in August of 1905 (I think, date is blurred). The image is in it's originalwooden frame, with the overall dimension being 15.5 x 11.5 inches, the image is 5.5 x 11 inches. Very clear with good detail, triangular hanging loop on the reverse. The pyrrhic victory won by the Germans at Gravelotte-St.Privat in August of 1870, prompted King Wilhelm of Prussia to declare, "my guard has found its grave before St.Privat". Regardless, it was a strategic victory as French Marshall Bazaine was forced to retire with his army to the Fortress of Metz. Denying his army freedom of movement, with the resulting siege by Prince Friedrich Charles, ending in the surrender of Bazaine's army in October of 1870.
