Original era manufacture. Early production flag of linen with a painted design on each side of the flag, rather worn silver wire fringe on three sides. The obverse displays a handpainted depiction of a large Imperial German eagle with the years 1870/71 below, battle honors for Kissingen, Konniggratz, Paris and Sedan appear on gray ribbons. On the reverse of the flag a wonderful depiction of St.Michael slaying ademon appears at center, with Mitt Gott fur Kaiser & Vaterland, God was with us, all honor to him. There is a three inch tear in the fabric on the obverse but that's really the only issue beyond some missing fringe to note. The fabric is sound and the paint is not cracking, just shows honest age and wear.
