Original era publication. A large format, period publication, likely dating to around 1880. The book concerns itself with individual stories of German soldiers, and their exploits during the Franco-Prussian War, which earned them the coveted Iron Cross. The frontispiece, is a color plate illustrating the awarding of the Iron Cross First Class to Field Marshall von Moltke, given from the hand of the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm. The book is quite large, measuring roughly 11.5x8.5x2 inches and is quite sound for its age. Several color plates with many B/W illustrations, some showing the awardees wearing their Iron Cross. Very sound.
