Original period manufacture. A well marked example with a polished steel blade showing a few nicks along its cutting edge and scattered age spotting and staining. The guard is marked with a crown W over 70 with a crown S below. This may indicate a Saxon issue with the year certainly being 1870. Next to these markings are 3.24. Third company, 24th weapon. The brass scabbard throat has similar markings of 3.24., with some indecipherable markings above. The scabbard body is wrapped in some sort of cloth based black tape, seems a bit wide for standard electrical tape, and looks to have been done sometime ago. Scabbard fit is a bit snug due to the tip being pinced a bit. Solid wartime date of a pattern Faschinenmesser we don't see too often.
