Original era manufacture. The Yataghan shaped blade is very bright, but does show minor areas of light surface corrosion and pitting. The tip is sharp and the blade has not been sharpened. Nice brass patina finish grip, working lock button, with the unit numbers stamped into the steel guard, 3 JR 1.The scabbard has sound stitching,, with unit markings on the brass chape, 10 JR . Light denting to the scabbard throat and chape. The Werder Rifle was adopted by Bavaria prior to the Franco-Prussian War with limited issue, mostly to Jaeger Battalions during that conflict. It was arguably the best rifle used by either side during that War. The Werder Rifle remained in service with the Royal Bavarian Army long after the adoption of the 1871 pattern Mauser rifle.
