Original period manufacture. Classic German Infantry helmet of the wars of unification, 1864, 1866 and 1870. Displaying prominently on it's front, a very fine example of the Garde Grenadier wappen, no extra holes behind the wappen. All of the metal fittings display a deep golden brown brass patina finish, and the helmet is complete except for the need of a large pattern Prussian cockade worn on the right side of the helmet. Both visors are securely sewn to the body of the helmet, with most of the proper stirrup-type securing nuts holding the metal fittings in place. The front visor trim fits the visor properly but needs to be reattached as the domed side securing buttons are missing. The liner is in poor condition, however portions of it do remain. Overall the helmet is in very solid condition for its age, representing one of the elite infantry regiments of the Prussian army, these are getting scarce to find in any condition.
