Original period manufacture. Stamped silver alloy wappen of an early type with the web of metal between the lower wing edge and top of the eagles leg. Collector cleaned obverse, with a very nice patina finish on the reverse. This particular eagle displays several areas of repair and reissue by the ever-frugal German military. On the reverse can be seen several small strips of metal which have been soldered to the back of the orb and eagles leg in order to secure them together. At some point the screw posts were lost and the simple expedient cure was to simply drill holes into the eagle's wings and pass the threaded portion through and attach the stirrup-type nuts onto the threads. They more I look at this the more I like it....but, try as I might, I can't be my own best customer.
