Original era manufacture. OK, so I'm not really sure what we have here, just taking a guess as to it's identity based on it's components. What I can say is that the hat appears to be a real "thing", not a contrived, or a made-up piece, as the quality of the manufacture is quite high, and further, that it shows honest wear and use. Feldgrau, doeskin wool top with gold wire piping, and a narrow gold wire chincord, secured by two gold pebbled buttons. Black imitation silk band, decorated with a oakleaf embroidered design, similar to that seen on NSKOV visors of the Third Reich era. Simple black painted fiber visor with a checked design on the underside. Tan oilcloth sweatband, with a NEGELE brand sweat diamond, with a greyish tan imitation silk lining, similar to that used on Wehrmacht M43 hats during the war. Inside the sweat diamond is a white paper tag, with a name written in faded ink, and the numbers 2941.Attached to the hat is a red-white (silver)-black WWII cockade, and on the band, a shield-shaped, brass insignia painted in the colors of Bavaria. Online sources state that Germany adopted the current national colors in 1949; with the Police being one of the first official organizations reestablished after the end of WWII, hence my guess. The prongs of the insignia do not penetrate the lining, and appear to have been on the hat for quite a while. The hat is quite sound with no issues beyond normal age and wear, the size is small, about a 55-56. Really an interesting hat, anyone have any ideas?
