Original era manufacture. An interesting helmet in the shape of the Bavarian raupenhelm, but without the large lambs wool comb. Instead, it has a silver alloy trim with a raised pintle, to which is attached a copper ball. This ball is held in place by a threaded base which fits into the pintle, with the threaded end passing through the helmet body, and being secured by a wing nut.Black leather body, with a large silver wappen with a crown and Bavarian coat of arms. On the left side is a fluted cockade displaying a letter M and crown, perhaps King Maximillian II of Bavaria 1848-1864. The blue paint on the cockade appears to be retouched. No liner remains, but otherwise the helmet appears complete. Very sound and quite ornate looking.
