Original era manufacture. Massive, heavy cavalry sabre made by the Royal Bavarian arsenal at Amberg. The polished steel blade measures 35.5 inches in length, running fairly straight and true, with a nice luster to the metal surface; 787 stamped into the spine of the blade, and AMBERG on the ricasso.Heavy steel three branch guard, and pommel, with a crosshatch design on the backstrap just above the guard; the original leather finger loop is intact. Wood grip which retains its original black leather covering. Stamped into the guard are unit markings 1. T.&.F.2.4. (Transport Pool Column of a Service Battalion).Matching quality heavy steel scabbard with a wonderful old dark patina finish without corrosion pitting. This is also unit marked, and almost matching, 1. T. & F. 2. 5. .Only one of the original suspension bands remains, without its ring, the other band was either removed or was lost over time. This is really a sound old weapon for its age.
