Original period manufacture. Antique, single shot, black powder, 11x60mm rifle, adopted after the Franco-Prussian War to arm the regiments of the Kaiser's army...except for Bavaria, which continued to issue the M1869 Werder rifle to it's troops until 1877. Our example was produced in the Bavarian arsenal at Amberg in 1877, the first year of production for the Bavarian made 1871 model weapons. The serial number is 389, making this one of the earlier production weapons from Amberg, with this number 389, or 89, appearing on all components marked with a serial number, except for the cocking mechanism on the bolt, which is numbered 75729. All of the metal is finished in the white with the exception of the trigger guard which is brass. The butt plate displays the regimental markings of B.L.R.6.91 (Bavarian Leibgarde Regiment, 6th Company, 91st Weapon). The stock is sound, free of cracks or chips, displaying typical dings and dents from service use. Faint Imperial proofs remain on the right stock face and on the underside of the butt. The bore is bright with strong rifling. A clean old rifle unit marked to the elite regiment of the Royal Bavarian Army. US SALES ONLY.
