Original period manufacture. Plated steel blade measuring 30.5 inches in length with Imperial proof marks on both sides of the ricasso. No corrosion issues, runs fairly straight with a very slight bend to the left about 12 inches below the point. Green wool felt bumper at the base of the blade. Ornate brass guard which folds on both sides, lion head pommel without the glass eyes. The recesses of the pommel show residue of old brass polish deep inside, including the eye sockets. Serial numbers and Ostsee property stampings on both sides of the small side of the guard. Black leather bodied scabbard with intact stitching and brass fittings. No breaks or flaking to the surface, just a crease about a foot back from the drag, exactly where the slight bend is in the blade. Navy property markings on the throat and drag with a serial number which matches that of the guard, 6275. Missing the securing staple from the bottom scabbard fitting. Pale yellow celluloid covered grip, bound with triple strand wire. There is some surface cracking to the grip covering from coming into contact with the folding guard, not detracting in my opinion. Nice old sword overall. Ornate cast brass guard, which folds on both sides, lionheaded pommel . Celluloid grip which is bound with double strand wire.Sound black leather bodied scabbard with tight stitching and no breaks in the leather body. Matching gilded brass fittings with a hammered decoration.
