Original era manufacture. An issue piece, with matching unit markings on the guard and scabbard throat, 32.12.204 (2nd Thuringian Infantry Regiment Nr.32, 12th company, 204th weapon) with an issue date of (18)60. Being of this early issue, this old sidearm would have been present for duty in all of the wars of German unification, 1864-1866-1870.Polished steel blade measuring 18.5 inches in length, with a service sharpened single cutting edge. Large S-guard of brass, with a ribbed brass grip and pommel.Sound, black leather bodied scabbard with tight stitching and a brass throat and chape. This is a very solid example of a weapon issued to Infantry soldiers as a weapon and a tool. It is very well marked in the Prussian fashion, and quite unusual that the unit markings and date match.
