Original era manufacture. A very well made hat, which the more I look at it's construction, it makes me wonder if it is not a private purchase hat for an adult with a small head. Since we took it in trade as a child's hat, we'll leave it at that, but the quality is certainly there for service use. White cotton topped hat with a piped edge, with a white muslin lining. White oilcloth sweatband which is stitched to the rigid band of the hat, a portion of the front stitching is coming loose. Gold embroidered, regulation cap tally held in place the proper way, with black thread retainers on each side and on the rear. Black-white-red cockade at the front. Normal age and wear, no damage beyond the stitching. The width of the cap band measures 6.5 inches.
