Original period manufacture. At first glance one would take this bayonet to be a standard M1871 dress bayonet, however, upon closer examination we note that the locking bar is on the opposite side, as found with the 1860 Fusilier bayonet. However the blade is simplified, more resembling the 1871 pattern blade. We purchased this bayonet for our own collection several years ago from an advanced Imperial collector we have known for many years. This was the theory he put forth and it made sense to me. It's physical description is, polished steel blade with an early Clemen & Jung trademark on it's ricasso. Scattered clouding and staining to the blade surfaces but no pitting. Plated steel guard with a brass grip, no scabbard. From our own collection....
