Original era manufacture. A very clean example, with matching regimental markings on the guard and scabbard throat, 3. G.A. 1. 17. (3rd Guard Field Artillery, 1st Battery, 17th Weapon) Polished steel blade measuring 17.25 inches in length, with evidence to old service sharpening on the cutting edge. Scattered areas of old cleaned surface corrosion, no deep pitting, Weyersburg makers name on the ricasso. Pleasing brass patina finish to the guard and grip, with some wear to the ribbing of the grip. Of interest, the issue date on the spine is Crown-W-11, making this weapon to have been issued in 1911, quite likely seeing some service in WWI. Black leather bodied scabbard with a brass throat and chape, matching unint markings on the scabbard throat. The leather is sound, no flaking or creases in the body, and fits the blade properly. Overall, normal age and wear.
