Original era manufacture. A scaled down pattern adopted in 1867 and continued until 1871. Several major distinctions set this pattern apart from its predecessor the M1860. Round spike base, rounded front visor and the lack of a rear spine. This lightened and simplified the 1867 model helmet but the rear spine was added once again in 1871. A further distinction, though lacking on this model, was the placing of bayonet type attachments on the reverse of the wappen which slipped into small metal loops, or guides on the front of the helmet. This allowed the removal of the wappen for cleaning much easier, however it also allowed them to easily fall off during strenuous use. Our example features a private purchase type lining sometimes seen on officer or NCO helmets of the era. Infantry style flat link brass chinstrap, small, later type Prussian two piece kokard and a early style brass wappen secured by screwposts. The front visor stitching is loose, no screw nuts are attached to the wappen and two of the base rivets look to be replacements but period pieces. This helmet is an upgrade from our collection.
