Original era manufacture. Classic brass gripped sword bayonet, adopted for use with the (then) new M1871 single-shot Mauser rifle.Gray patina finish to the steel blade, which retains a nice sheen to the surface, with light staining and a spot or two of old corrosion. Steel patina finish to the guard, with unit markings, L. Kreuzb. 237. 1, which I believe indicates Kreuzbach Landwehr Battalion 1. The blade spine displays a crown W with a blurred date, and just below a crowned script L, for King Ludwig of Bavaria.Sound, black leather bodied scabbard with tight stitching, and brass throat and chape in good repair.
